Babysitting a 17 year old & catching up on zee blog

Life is pretty grand for us. We moved to Murray on May 5th, Cinco de Mayo. Ay Ay! Sterling's awesome brothers and both of our Dads helped us move and made it so easy and fast! I still need to make them brownies for helping us...don't worry, I haven't forgotten!

Red and blue again... this is my designated moving/painting/project shirt, okay people?
We don't plan it, I promise.

We spent a week moving in and getting settled, and then packed up again to stay at Sterling's parents house for a week and a half! His parents and bro/sis are traveling in England, so we were the "babysitters" for Ster's 17 year old brother Jaren. Haha. We've been having a joyous time relaxing (for the first time basically since school got out!)

Our adventures:
  • Hot tubbing in the backyard
  • Going out to dinner with Laura and Brad & Palmer :)
  • Watching movies
  • Experimenting with pinterest desserts: *If any of you have pinned Crockpot Chocolate Lava Cake ---> Beware! We cooked this deceivingly delicious looking recipe and it was TERRIBLE! It basically turned into a thick gooey pudding mess! Not edible, unless you want to use it as hot fudge to put over your ice cream. Haha. First time pinterest has failed me with a recipe!
(fyi: this is a picture of it before we cooked it. regardless, it ended up about the same consistency! ha!)

  • Taking care of chickens

:)

  • Staining decks and wearing turquoise pants.

  • Painting: I've been wanting to paint our coffee table since we got married, and we finally did! I always forget to take "before" pictures in my anticipation in starting a project. Apparently I didn't take a single picture of it in our last apartment? I was bad a taking pictures though... that will change now!! Anyways, it used to be a light shade of wood. We actually got it from Brad and Laura- thanks for providing me with a project guys!

After the first coat of blue. You can't even tell, but I spent forever diagramming and measuring a chevron pattern on the table! We outlined it with green frog tape and painted over it.

Peeling off the frog tape to show the pattern!

*Picture disclaimer. Pretty sure this was at midnight or something...

After painting in all the stripes a light shade of blue! That took forever... if you ever decide to paint a chevron print, make sure you paint your base color FIRST! If we had done that, we wouldn't have had to paint inside all the lines which was super tedious and hard! Haha oh well, a learning experience.

Here it is back at our apartment! I love it!

(This picture makes the color look weird for some reason?)

I got some block letters at Hobby Lobby and painted them the same shade of blue
to go in our kitchen above the window. Can't wait to hang them up!

Sterling was so good about letting me be creative with the table
even though I'm sure sometimes he was worried about how it would turn out! Haha.

Sterling's parents give all of their kids clocks as wedding presents. We spent days going through a big catalog deciding which one we liked best. It made me so excited to have a house someday so we can have room for the grandfather clock that Sterling made! It's at his parents house right now, until we buy a house and have room for it!

Isn't it beautiful?? He made it his senior year of high school. Who builds a massive clock when they're 18 years old?? He is so talented!
I love doing projects with him because he teaches me so much.

Well, that is a little idea of what we've been up to lately! Lots of laminating and teacher meetings for me! I can't believe I start teaching in two months from tomorrow! EEEEE!

Happy Thursday :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's day tomorrow!

This year, I am especially lucky to have a mother
&
a mother in law to celebrate!

I'm very grateful for both of these women.
Love you mom.

We're having dinner with the Davis's and then my brother is calling from his mission in New Zealand!
I know that will make my mom's day :)

P.S.
We've moved!!
And it's awesome.
Pictures coming soon.

Sterling in Moab

My husband enjoyed teasing me while he was gone by sending me pictures of him in danger.
He knows how much I hate it when people get too close to the edge of a cliff.
Thanks bud.

All the men.

Unfortunately their car broke down on the way home :( So it took them almost eight hours to get home!
Bummer! At least it happened on the way home and not on the drive there, right??

8 months & a happy list

A happy list.
  • Well, I survived my first night away from Sterling since we got married! I miss him lots! He's in Moab for the weekend biking with his Dad and brothers. I'm glad he's having fun, and he definitely deserved a little getaway from work and school! The happy part is he's coming home tomorrow!
  • I'm taking the Praxis exam tomorrow which means I will finally be done studying!
  • We're moving to our wonderful new apartment in a week from tomorrow! Yay!!
  • Girl's night at the Blue Lemon to celebrate Megan's birthday tonight!
  • Substituting this week in 2nd grade has made me so excited to be a teacher and have my OWN class!
  • I'm loving the cooler weather and rain. Summer used to never be hot enough for me. That was back when I went swimming everyday with my friends and could escape the heat! Now, I'm thinking it'd be great if it never got hotter than 80 degrees. Yep.
  • It's the weekend!
  • Sterling and I have been married for 8 months today :)

I've got a feeling...woohoo

It's a good feeling. You know, being done with finals and all. This cheery song pretty much sums it up.

I have to say the only downfall is that Ster still has two more weeks of school. Boo. He is so great. I would've had such a hard time if he finished two weeks before me! You're almost done Sterling! :) That's why I married him. Because he's the best!

Well, now it's on to our next big adventure. Moving to Murray! I'm glad I finished school a couple weeks earlier because now I will have time to get all our stuff packed up. Sweet! We can't wait to move. Seriously. Things are getting weird. Haha. May 5th couldn't come fast enough :)

Sterling and I watched this BYU prank a few days ago and were highly amused. This is my kind of prank! Finding cute bunnies and baby chicks in my apartment?? Can you say AMAZING? I love it. Hearing about pranks at BYU always reminds me of my Dad... let's just say I know about a few too many of his college pranks! Haha.

College memories.

My life as a college student is coming quickly to an end. Tomorrow I will be taking my last two finals of my college career. And I will be done.

DONE.

This picture was taken the day I moved down to Provo.
August 2008.

I think about all the experiences I've had over the last four years... and I'm just so... happy.

happy because I know I can do hard things. (like getting A's in classes that couldn't be farther from my comfort zone... aka Statistics)
happy because I found a major that I am passionate about.
happy because I had roommates that became some of my best friends. (I love you guys!!)
happy because I will have completed a goal I've had my whole life.
happy because I tried new things and developed new hobbies.
happy because I am more patient.
happy that I've traveled the world and experienced a completely new culture. (Nkwagala nyo Uganda!)
happy because I am smarter ;) and able to make a difference in the world.
happy because I learned more about myself while in college than ever before.
happy because I had teachers that inspired me to be a better person.
happy because I married my best friend in the whole world.
and happy because I have more confidence in myself and what I can accomplish.

I couldn't have asked for a more awesome college experience. Even though I won't be "walking" until next April, it feels like I have completed my time as an undergrad at BYU. It's been a good ride. I had way too much fun with my girls for three years, traveled to Africa on a service trip, learned how to be a successful teacher, married my best friend the summer after my junior year, finished out my senior year as a newlywed commuting from Draper, and got a job teaching 2nd grade.

Ah, what a life. Can't wait for the adventures to come!

Happy Easter

“My beloved brothers and sisters, in our hour of deepest sorrow, we can receive profound peace from the words of the angel that first Easter morning: ‘He is not here: for he is risen'...I declare my personal witness that death has been conquered, victory over the tomb has been won. May the words made sacred by Him who fulfilled them become actual knowledge to all. Remember them. Cherish them. Honor them. He is risen.”
- President Thomas S. Monson

I am so thankful for my Savior, Jesus Christ.
Because he died, we will live again.
